Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth: do we need them?

Wisdom teeth are a 3rd series of molars that typically grow between the ages of 16-18 years old. They are not necessary for proper mastication (chewing) and often don’t have enough space to fully erupt which can cause problems in the future.

Why remove wisdom teeth?

Impacted or partially impacted wisdom teeth can cause multiple complications including recurrent infections, jaw pain and even the loss of an adjacent tooth. It is therefore very important to have regular dental check-ups since most of these symptoms can appear suddenly and without warning.

When is the best time to remove wisdom teeth?

The best time to remove wisdom teeth is usually between the ages of 15 to 25 years old when the roots of the teeth have not completely formed. This makes the treatment easier and accelerates the healing process.
